HUBBARD HOUSE TO HOST RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR NEW OUTREACH CENTER AND THRIFT STORE
Hubbard House will celebrate a milestone with the official opening of its new Outreach Center and Thrift Store Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the entrance of the new Outreach Center and Thrift Store located at 6629 Beach Blvd., at 1 p.m., followed by an open house until 6 p.m.
Recognizing the importance of effective outreach services to Hubbard House’s mission,
Every Relationship Violence-Free, the need for an outreach center that would dramatically improve client accessibility to services was identified several years ago. Thanks to the generosity of Terry Ward and Michael Ward, the Outreach Center has become a reality.
“A majority of the clients Hubbard House serves do not come into shelter but are helped through our outreach services,” said Hubbard House Outreach Services Manager Karen Williams. In 2007-2008 Hubbard House provided services to over 5,300 victims of domestic violence and their children. Out of the 5,300 clients served more than 4,500 were provided services through outreach.
The new Hubbard House Outreach Center will offer comprehensive services at a safe, central location. Some of the services available at the new Outreach Center include drop-in crisis intervention, individual counseling for adults and children, case management, advocacy, support groups for adult victims, and the HARK (Helping At Risk Kids) Program. “The new Outreach Center will provide a safe place for victims of domestic violence to work toward building a violence-free life,” Williams said.
Additionally, the Hubbard House Thrift Store, established in 1985, relocated from its previous location to the new Outreach Center and Thrift Store at 6629 Beach Blvd. One-hundred percent of net proceeds of sales go to funding the agency’s programs and services. The Thrift Store also provides free clothing, furniture and household items to Hubbard House clients and their children to help them in their transition to a peaceful life. In 2007-2008, goods valued at $57,549 were donated to Hubbard House clients.
“Terry Ward and Michael Ward have made our dreams come true,” said Hubbard House CEO Ellen Siler. “The new Outreach Center is going to make our services more accessible, and the money we used to pay in rent for the Thrift Store can now be used to help victims.”
