HUBBARD HOUSE FOUNDATION RAISES OVER $5 MILLION IN HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN
The Hubbard House Foundation has successfully completed its Endowment Campaign and exceeded its $5 million goal by raising $5.3 million in outright gifts and pledges. In 2006, Hubbard House became the first domestic violence center in the state to establish a foundation, and in January 2007, the Hubbard House Foundation embarked upon its Endowment Campaign under the leadership of Steering Committee Co-Chairs Nancy Taylor and William E. Scheu.
Many long-time supporters of Hubbard House generously contributed to the Endowment Campaign. Jacksonville Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver made an early gift of $500,000.
In February 2008, with the fundraising goal in sight but not yet reached, Michael Ward, President and CEO of CSX Corporation, and his wife Terry Ward issued a $1 million challenge to the community in honor of Ellen Siler on her 10th anniversary as Hubbard House CEO. The Wards agreed to match donations to the fund dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million for a six-month period ending August 31.
The Wards’ extraordinary challenge offered the citizens of northeast Florida a unique opportunity to amplify their investment in the community by supporting the critical work of Hubbard House. It was just the boost the campaign needed; by August 31, the community had donated or pledged a total of $1 million in response to the Ward Challenge, thus enabling the Foundation to receive the full benefit of the match. In addition, the Ward Challenge attracted many new supporters to Hubbard House, including Jaguars players Brian Williams, Rashean Mathis, Drayton Florence and Fred Taylor.
Bill Scheu, who also co-chaired Hubbard House’s very successful capital campaign in the mid-1990s, commented: “Raising money for an endowment is much harder than for a capital campaign where donors can see the brick and mortar result. It is deeply gratifying the way the community has responded to the Endowment Campaign to support Hubbard House.”
The success of the Endowment Campaign was especially meaningful for Hubbard House CEO Ellen Siler: “I am very proud of what our community has done to help ensure the future of life-saving domestic violence services. The Endowment Fund will be a crucial resource for Hubbard House in years to come as we continue to work for a peaceful future for victims of domestic violence and their children.”

ABOUT THE HUBBARD HOUSE FOUNDATION
Incorporated in 2006, as the first foundation in the state established by a domestic violence center, the purpose of the Foundation is to strengthen the future financial resources of Hubbard House, Inc. by raising endowed funds that will generate income that can be used to support the programs of the agency. The Foundation’s primary focus is endowed and planned giving. The Hubbard House Foundation has adopted a sound investment policy comparable to this country’s best-managed endowments.
