LESS THAN EIGHT WEEKS REMAIN TO MATCH THE $1 MILLION CHALLENGE
Less than eight weeks remain for the $1 million challenge issued to the community by Michael Ward, president and CEO of CSX Corporation, and his wife Terry Ward, long-time supporters of Hubbard House. In late February, Michael and Terry Ward committed $1 million to the Hubbard House Foundation Endowment Campaign and challenged the community to a dollar-for-dollar match to all donations received and pledges made through August 31. The Wards’ Hubbard House Endowment Challenge was issued to raise the remainder of the campaign’s $6.5 million goal. At time of press, the amount needed to achieve the Ward match is $410,000.
“It is so gratifying the way the community has responded to the Wards’ challenge, donating over $580,000 to help end domestic violence. And we are working hard to bring in the remainder so that we don’t have to leave any of the matching funds on the table.” said Bill Scheu, Hubbard House Foundation Endowment Campaign Steering Committee Co-Chair.
All donations raised through this campaign will be committed to the Hubbard House Foundation Endowment Fund. The money donated will be invested and managed to produce a steady stream of income to ensure that Hubbard House has a dependable source of funding for many years to come. It is essential for Hubbard House to have the financial well-being to maintain, strengthen and expand its life-saving programs so that our community can keep victims and their children safe and bring about the social change necessary to ensure that they will no longer have to live in fear in their own homes.
With over 6,300 incidents of domestic violence reported locally in 2007, domestic violence is a pervasive social issue that affects everyone in Northeast Florida, beyond the lives of its most immediate victims. Domestic violence impacts public safety resources, our schools, the workplace, and it degrades our community’s standard of living. Children growing up in violent homes are at a significantly greater risk of juvenile delinquency and of perpetuating violence as adults. Hubbard House helps break this cycle.
