GOLFERS DRIVING TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HELPED RAISE $110,000 FOR HUBBARD HOUSE

The 14th Annual ADT Hubbard House Golf Classic was a huge success, raising more than $110,000! The two-day event, presented by Honeywell Security & Custom Electronics and Matrix, Inc., benefited Hubbard House, a certified, comprehensive domestic violence center that serves victims and their children in Duval and Baker counties. The money raised from the event will help support Hubbard House’s work in providing emergency shelter, therapeutic daycare, counseling, school-based education, court advocacy and batterers’ intervention services.

The ADT Hubbard House Golf Classic festivities began Sunday, April 6 at the Par-Tee and Auction. The rainy weather didn’t stop golfers and their guests from enjoying heavy hors devours and both a silent and a live auction. There were many wonderful items to bid on at the auction, including Lynyrd Skynyrd concert tickets with meet and greet passes, a four-day, three-night stay at The Amelia Island Plantation including golf, a three-day stay at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia and 2008 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament tickets, just to name a few!

With the bad weather staying at bay Monday, April 7, the golfers were able to swing into action with a 10:30 a.m. tee off. This fun-filled day included multiple par-3, hole-in-one prizes including $10,000, a Rolex provided by Underwood Jewelers, and a Dell Computer. Skill contests such as closest to the pin, longest drive, and a putting contest brought a little more excitement and revived up the golfers’ competitive drive. Though players from all over the United States participated in the tournament, local teams took top honors. Jacksonville’s H & W Trucking’s foursome won First Place Net and Steve Vining’s Foursome won First Place Gross.

Locally, thousands of women, men and children are affected by domestic violence. In its last fiscal year Hubbard House provided services to more than 5,300 victims. More than 26,000 counseling hours were also provided through both Hubbard House’s shelter and outreach services.

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship please call the Hubbard House hotline at (904) 354-3114 or 1 (800) 500-1119.
